Compute & Communicate Inaugural Lecture

Join us on George Boole Day for the inaugural lecture in the Boole Shannon lecture series; a joint initiative between University College Cork and Massachusetts Institute of Technology, celebrating the anniversaries of George Boole and Claude Shannon, and their seminal contributions to mathematics, computer science and engineering.

Professor Anant Agarwal opens this lecture series with a talk in the Brookfield Health Sciences Complex on November 2 on 'Boole, Logic and Learning'. Lectures will continue at MIT throughout spring 2016. For more information visit http://booleshannon.mit.edu

Anant Agarwal is a professor of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology where he led the development of Alewife, an early cache coherent multiprocessor. He served as director of the MIT Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence Laboratory as was founder and CTO of Tilera, a fabless semiconductor company focusing on scalable multicore embedded processor design. He is the founding President of edX, one of the largest massive online learning partnerships which was founded by MIT, Harvard University and Stanford University to make the world’s greatest university courses freely accessible online. His awards include the Maurice Wilkes prize for computer architecture, and MIT's Smullin and Jamieson prizes for teaching.

The lecture will be live-streamed and will be available here to view on George Boole Day, 2 November 2015.
