Join us this Thursday at the Cork Life Centre and learn about George Boole, forefather of the Information Age.
The George Boole 200 Programme partners with the Cork Life Centre Cork to present an educational lecture about George Boole and his remarkable family. Olivia Frawley, Family History Project Manager for the George Boole 200 programme, will delve into Boole’s life and legacy, exploring the intriguing characters in or associated with his family, and some remarkable stories about where he lived and worked.
Olivia is the Editor of the George Boole* Chronicles, a finalist in the US-based International Book Awards in May and published as part of UCC’s George Boole 200 celebrations this year. She also edited the George Boole animated visual display, which currently forms part of UCC Library Exhibition ‘The Life and Legacy of George Boole’. Olivia currently works in the International Office where she provides support to the International Strategy of the University.
George Boole (1815-1864) changed the world we live in today. He was one of the forefathers of the Information Age and the first Professor of Mathematics at Queen’s College Cork (now known as University College Cork). Despite the ubiquity of application of his mathematics and global familiarity with the term Boolean Logic, George Boole remains virtually unknown outside the world of Computer Science and Mathematics.
Come and learn about the legacy of one of the great independent thinkers, whose work in Cork laid the foundations of the Information Age.
